Local Agenda-21 (LA21) Cities women councils, with their work on ‘Women in Politics’ became an important partner of UNDP Women in Politics Project. 57 representatives, from programme partners and 30 cities, participated to the LA-21 Women Councils meeting between 27-29 June 2006 in Ankara. The two days long meeting witnessed coordination in between the women councils and knowledge share of the programme partners and furthered the organization works for the ‘5th Local Agenda 21 Women Summit’ which will be held in between 31 August - 4 September in Ürgüp, with the support of the UNDP Women in Politics Project.
The voluntary cities, Adana, Antakya, Bursa, Kütahya, Samsun, Yalova, Zonguldak which the LA-21 Women Councils formed the ‘Election Quota Working Group for Women’, shared their activities with the rest of the LA-21 women councils’ members, and they will be continuing their work by taking support from UNDP Women in Politics Project. Aiming to encourage the campaign participation, a decision taken to prepare a declaration for the campaign that have collected 20.000 signatures untill now and these signatures will be taken to the Turkish Grand National Assembly. During the LA-21 Women Councils meeting, the Quota Group shared the results of their survey actualized by interviewing political parties, by the meeting participants.
In order to finalize the preparations for the ‘5th LA-21 Women Summit’, there will be a following meeting in Ankara in the end of July and the Election Quota Working Group for Women will separately come together within this month as well.
