Regional
climate change scenarios for Turkey
Following the completion of the Self-Assessment
Exercise on Climate Change, II.phase was initiated through
UNDP Country Office in order to enable the project proposal
applications for TUBITAK Public Research & Development Program
that also ensured the continuation of the Climate Change Country
Programme of Turkey. These activities targeting preliminary
and mid-term outputs to Turkey's INC, was supervised and financed
solely by UNDP.
The total budget (used to enable submittal
of TUBITAK Project Proposals) : 25,000 USD by UNDP
Project name:
Regional climate change scenarios for Turkey
Approved in: September 2005, Ankara,
Turkey
Budget: 315,158 YTL
Timeline: 2 years
Executing Public Agency: Ministry of
Environment and Forestry - State Meteorological Services
Partners: METU, ITU, TUBITAK-MAM
The scope of the Project
Finalization of such scenarios based on the main characteristics
of SRES family or others recognized/recommended by IPCC. It
will incorporate several linked tasks including climate change
detection efforts, dynamical and statistical downscaling exercises
based on IPCC/Third Assessment Report (TAR) (and upcoming
Fourth Assessment Report (FAR) when becomes available) model
output resources, which will provide at set of climate projections
for Turkey and its regions and will culminate in a set of
climate change scenarios.
Project Outputs
Covers the identification of impacts on human
and natural systems based on three global climate scenarios
(temperature variation, rainfall, agriculture and biodiversity,
soil, temperature, water resources, human settlements, human
health)
Preparation of the Project Proposal initiated
by UNDP Country Office
The project is funded by Government of
Turkey under the umbrella of TUBITAK public R&D Program
