Combustion
of Biomass and Biomass/Coal Compositions
Following the completion of the Self-Assessment
Exercise on Climate Change, II.phase was initiated through
UNDP Country Office in order to enable the project proposal
applications for TUBITAK Public Research & Development Program
that also ensured the continuation of the Climate Change Country
Programme of Turkey. These activities targeting preliminary
and mid-term outputs to Turkey's INC, was supervised and financed
solely by UNDP.
The total budget (used to enable submittal
of TUBITAK Project Proposals) : :25,000 USD by UNDP
Project name:
Combustion of biomass and biomass/coal compositions in circulating
fluidized-bed and researching clean energy production
Approved in: September 2005, Ankara,
Turkey
Budget: 5,000,000 YTL
Timeline: 3 years
Executing Public Agency: Ministry of
Energy and Natural Resources
Partners: METU, TUBITAK-MAM, Minisrty
of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Gama Power
The scope of the Project
Turkey has an important reserve of coal and it can be
efficiently use in the production of energy with biomass (in
other words with DAY technology) and therefore the project
aims the followings achievements:
- to decrease country's dependance on energy
imports -to increase local resources' productivity
- to use biomass as an alternative resource
- to improve methods and technologies of
energy production
- to ensure emission abatement within circulating
fluidized-bed combustion units
- to ensure use of domestic coal resources
in compliance with air quality standards.
Project Outputs
- Installation and processing a lab-scale
unit (50kW) for researching best combustion yield which
is to be followed by installation of pilot scale unit in
the premises of EIE
- Widening use of the units
throughout a know-how package
Preparation of the Project Proposal initiated
by UNDP Country Office
The project is funded by Government of
Turkey under the umbrella of TUBITAK public R&D Program
